in response...

...to jenny's post and question:

"what do you love about where you live?"

my neighborhood is best in the summer. i love having an elementary school behind my backyard. there's always baseball, basketball, or playground noises floating in through the windows.

i love the used furniture store around the corner, owned by an elderly gentleman who uses a dolly to haul all the furniture outside to the sidewalk in the morning and then back in at night. you know it's summer when you see his wares outside the shop.

i love the greek guy who works at the pizza shop down the street who knows who to expect to pick up when i tell him my name.

i love the guy who works in the liquor store a few doors down. he looks like chris cooper and sometimes he gives me a slim jim for free with my pinot grigio.

i love the river down the street that empties into a pond where they have a fishing derby in july, and the community pool in the same park that is always filled with kids having a ton of fun.

i love when the police come and shine searchlights on the school that i can see out my back window. it's a nightly thing and it strikes me as funny/rediculous and comforting at the same time.

i love waking up next to the landscapers who live next door who are packing up their truck right next to my first-floor window.

i love living within a few blocks of a goodwill store, a great breakfast place, a great pizza/sub place, a coffee shop, a liquor store, a mechanic, a butcher and a baker, but no candlestick maker.

i guess my neighborhood isn't quite perfect.

swiped from 1/2, though i've seen it elsewhere:

What American accent do you have?
Your Result: The Northeast

Judging by how you talk you are probably from north Jersey, New York City, Connecticut or Rhode Island. Chances are, if you are from New York City (and not those other places) people would probably be able to tell if they actually heard you speak.

i do have a boston accent... i suppose scoring in the northeast is something... but does this mean that i'm just a language idiot, and i can't even describe how i say things?

11/6: useless non-facts about danielle, my number two myspace buddy--hey, i had a long day

about your number 2

1) Their name?
dan-yell

2) Do you trust them?
with my life... i flew in a plane of hers today. but seriously.

i am making this one up, because there was no number three in the survey:
3)What is something this person taught you?
she will not be friends with me anymore if i ever wear black shoes with a brown belt or vice versa. also what being best buddies is all about! **tear** oh, and that if i ever say or seriously type "w00t", you can kill me. and to read, obvs.

4) How old were you when you first met?
in 6th grade... 11 or 12?

5) Is this person one of your best friends?
yup

6) Say something that only makes sense to you and them.
"the fountain"? we have a zillion stories but that's the only quick phrase that's coming to mind... "nobody listens to techno," obvs, though there isn't much of a story behind it. how about, "what time are you going to be home?" hahahaha. it's important to know who says that one. hahahaha. oh, also, "remember the first time i said 'fuck you' to your mother?" but i guess that one's pretty self explanatory.

7) Is this person older than you?
nope, she's just a lil tyke

8) When was the last time u saw them?
phew, over labor day

this survey is a rip-off and is skipping all kinds of numbers, so here's an original number nine:
9) Does this person have any pets?
in braintree she has a posessed cat named buffy (after the vampire slayer) who has replaced her as the only child in her parents' home. in the lou she and t-boz have a pup named buster and many tropical fishes whose lives she recently saved--heroically, but grumpily.

10) Are you related to this person?
no

for goodness sake, there's no 11 or 12!
11) Have you ever taken a trip with this person?
yah, we went to dc together in 8th grade, and montreal together in high school, aaaaaand i think that's it! :( d-money, we should take a vacay together

12) What is this person's favorite drink?
margaritas from the beachcomber. if you don't know that, you're not american.

13) Are you their b/f or g/f?
no

14) Do you have nicknames for each other?
uh, no. i call her dan-yell and dan-smell but only in emailios. actually, i call her d and dani in real life, too. she just calls me manda.

15) Do you have pics of this person on your myspace?
yep. compared to her, i look great. BURN! seriously, my eyebrows look good in all my pictures with dani.

16) How many times do you talk/write to this person in a week?
oh, about a TRILLION. we email all day.

17) Do you think the person will repost this?
no, she's no bloghead.

18) Could u live with this person?
IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII think so but she thinks i would murderlize her. and i might, but in a good way. i'm just not a morning person, danielle!!! it's nothing PERSONAL.

19) What is this persons favorite color?
blue (?)

20) Why is this person number two on your top 8?
because she's the best and my oldest friend who has a myspace profile but my brother's blood so he goes first

21) Have you seen this person cry?
oh, my god, it was horrible

22) Do you know this persons middle name?
how could i not, she's so psyched about it ;)

100 Things--Updated October 1, 2007

I know this is probably unforgivably narcissistic, to keep revising my 100 things... but then again, I suppose having the blog, period, is, as well. I dunno, I'm feeling new for the past few weeks... so I thought it was time to reassess.

    1. I am the oldest child in my family, and the only girl.
    2. My father built the house that I grew up in and my parents still live in. My brother and I went to "The Land" everyday after school and watched the house go up. I kind of love that I can remember the foundation being poured.
    3. My brother Pat is in the Army, currently stationed in Korea until May 2008.
    4. I speak with a Boston accent. It's not bad, relatively, but people from outside Boston notice.
    5. I graduated from Trinity College (CT) in May of 2003 with a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies, focusing on urban sociology. I minored in Legal Studies.
    6. I am 5'10" tall. I have been since the fifth grade.
    7. The farthest away from Boston I have ever been is Las Vegas, NV in April 2006. I have never been abroad.
    8. I cannot tell left from right without thinking about it. This is a problem, mostly when driving and giving people directions to the bathroom.
    9. My dad has called me "Beauty Queen" for as long as I can remember.
    10. I am 100% Irish and proud of it, but I don't go around drawing shamrocks or anything.
    11. My hair is super curly, thick and coarse. It's impossible to straighten or control in any way and it made my life miserable for a long time, but I'm okay with it now.
    12. However, when people say "I would kill for your hair," I kind of want to kill them.
    13. I strongly prefer Diet Coke over Diet Pepsi, but I like regular Pepsi better than regular Coke. Hmmmm.
    14. I grew up in the 'Tree and now I live in the 'Wood.
    15. Everyone says I look like Julia Stiles. I don't mind. :)
    16. It's always bothered me that the horoscope special for Leos is in the August issues of magazines. I'm a Leo and my birthday's in July.
    17. I have tremendous respect for and a healthy fear of my parents.
    18. I played field hockey and tennis in high school. I wasn't very good at either, but it was fun.
    19. I love Post-Its and Post-It dispensers.
    20. My jaw clicks when I chew. It's pretty loud.
    21. I usually don't wear any makeup, except mascara.
    22. I don't have any tattoos and only my ears are pierced.
    23. I take really long showers.
    24. I love, love, love getting manicures and pedicures.
    25. I only wear silver or platinum jewlery.
    26. I love to read, but I am really bad at retaining any information I learn by reading.
    27. My junior year of college three of my best friends went abroad for a semester. I was so lonely and bored that I stayed in my room, smoked butts, played Snood, and lost more than 30 pounds. I don't suggest trying that diet.
    28. I have to eat cereal with a big spoon or a soup spoon. The little one just doesn't do it--there's a poor milk-to-cereal ratio going on there.
    29. I talk to myself. A lot. Like, I think I'd get in trouble if anyone knew how much.
    30. Currently, I drink Captain Morgan and Diet Coke when I go out. In the past I have cycled through Cape Codders, margaritas, the mucci (Stoli and Red Bull), Alabama Slammers, and Stoli Raz, Sprite and crans.
    31. I have a birthmark that I hate.
    32. My handwriting constantly changes. I had to make a conscious effort to nail down a signature, and I have to remember to write it correctly when I sign my name.
    33. I am extrordinarily messy, but I have bouts of neatness. They usually last about a week.
    34. I have been employed since my sophomore year of high school and my first job was as a cashier at Bradlees. I worked there until I left for college.
    35. I cyber stalk like you would not believe.
    36. I love to wear big, dangly earrings.
    37. I used to have a nemesis. I kind of miss it--but we're cool now, and that's nice.
    38. My mother makes the best spaghetti and meatballs. Her apple pie ain't bad either.
    39. I love doing crossword puzzles.
    40. Cars I've owned: Red 1986 Saab hatchback (1998). Milk chocolate 1984 Jaguar XJ6 (1999). White 1991 Jetta EcoDiesel (2002-2004). Beige 1996 Toyota Camry (2004-2006). In September 2006 I bought my Gray 2002 Ford Taurus SEL, which I am
      driving now.
    41. I can drive stick, but I don't understand why someone would by a new car standard.
    42. I like to roll up a piece of Scotch tape and put it around my finger like a ring, and play with the sticky part. When all the stickiness is gone, I throw it away.
    43. I work for a company that you love, and I absolutely love working for them.
    44. I have a bad back. I was diagnosed with scoliosis in 5th grade and I never did the excercises. If you ask my mother, this is probably the reason for most of my physical ailments (poor eyesight, headache, cold, flu, sprained finger: "Do your back exercises.")
    45. I used to bite people when drunk. Enough people got mad and I stopped, but sometimes I still feel the urge.
    46. I used to smoke Parliment Lights, then I switched to Marlboro Lights, and now I am back to P-funks because they are ALWAYS buy 2, get one free.
    47. I would like to quit smoking, but I haven't really put it a good effort at it yet.
    48. I went to the same college as CK Bradley, Jane Swift, Mary McCormack, and Jake Gyllenhaal's dad. I was there at the same time as Faye Dunaway's son and the little girl from Hook.
    49. When I was a sophomore in college, my roommates and I used to do shots of Bacardi 151 before going out drinking. I honestly don't know how we lived through it.
    50. Speaking of, my sophomore year in college was, without a doubt, the best year of my life so far.
    51. The first thing Alexis said to me was, "What size shoes do you wear?" I didn't know it then, but that was the beginning of a beautiful friendship. Also, on the phone that first time, I pictured her as a "Trinity girl" before I even knew what a "Trinity girl" was.
    52. I love drinking games, especially Never Have I Ever, Asshole, and the dice game that my brother taught me over Christmas 2004, as well as "physical" drinking games like Beiruit and Flip-cup.
    53. My favorite condiments are sour cream and A1. I don't like ketchup or mustard or relish.
    54. I love olives, pickles, potato chips, and anything else salty. It's a preference that runs in my family, and it's also why my mom didn't notice extreme salt cravings and her Addison's disease went undiagnosed for the better part of a year.
    55. I'm slightly obsessed with the concept of ennui.
    56. One time I went to a Jimmy Norton show and he talked to me from the stage. It was
      the best.
    57. My favorite book of all time is The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
    58. My best friend moved to Saint Louis, bought a BMW, spends ten days a year in China and is engaged to a perfectly wonderful man.
    59. I am a certified professional bartender, but have never earned a dollar at my craft.
    60. If I could do college again, I would have gone to a state school and majored in psychology. I have regrets, but... you live, you learn.
    61. I don't know if I would like to have children. I'm not ruling it out, but I could definitely see it not happening. I like kids, but the idea of being responsible for producing a good person scares the shit out of me.
    62. I have never broken a bone in my life, and I've only had stitches in once, when I was one. I'm careful.
    63. I went to Catholic school for two years--first and second grade.
    64. I have 17 tios y tias and 21 primos y primas.
    65. One time I got thrown out of the Foxy Lady for being too drunk. Actually, they didn't even let me in. We went to Alex's instead.
    66. I like hanging out near my apartment, but I love QC bars like the 'Comber, the Half Door, Paddy Barry's and Bad Abbots. It's not the same without my Dani anyway, though.
    67. I am so vulnerable to infomercials! But no regrets--I will swear by my Maxiglide and my Proactiv, but my Ultimate Chopper broke after like 8 seconds.
    68. I really want to go on Jeopardy!, and I think I'd do well, but on Wheel of Fortune you get to keep your money even if you lose, so...
    69. In the winter of 2004-5, I beat Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Shawn helped a little, but I totally did all the hard parts, except racing Catalina.
    70. I have 1 photo on my desk: my parents on my mom's 50th birthday, at dinner at the Red Parrot in Hull.
    71. I have a hand carved bookmark in my pencil jar at work that has some kind of exotic bird and "OAXACA" carved on it. I found it in the desk I inherited a couple of jobs ago and I love it.
    72. My favorite foods: pizza, Triscuit pizzas, crab cakes (especially from Finian's), spinach-artichoke dip, steak, lobster, hummus, anything with cheese.
    73. I played the saxaphone in elementary school.
    74. On 9/11/2001, I was a junior at Trin living in a Jackson single. I woke up and went to class (I didn't have my TV set up yet). Someone coming late to class said something about a plane in New York, and someone else suggested we stop class, but the professor continued the lesson. After it was over I went to Christine, Laura, Erin and Daphne's room on the quad to watch TV and call my mother, and I spent most of the day there. That night we all went to the Tap.
    75. I had all four wisdom teeth removed in the summer of 1999.
    76. I LOVE getting my teeth cleaned.
    77. I have only gotten two speeding tickets in my whole life out of 9 traffic stops, though several were for reasons other than speeding. My favorite one was when I was pulled over for speeding on Sea Street: Christine was passed out in the front seat and Mike Palmacci and Erin were making out in the back next to Danielle. I didn't get a ticket that time!
    78. My 16- and 17-year-old brothers run a successful landscaping business and very likely make more money than I do.
    79. I used to belong to an afterschool choir in junior high, and I had a duet in our eighth grade concert--I sang the opening to When I Fall in Love from Sleepless in Seattle with Ryan Grow.
    80. I would like to eventually attain a higher degree, probably an MBA or at least a certificate in Human Resources Management, but I would really like to do something with psychology. Unfortunately, with $26k in undergrad debt hanging over my head, I'm not sure how likely further eduation really is.
    81. I used to be into Nelly pretty seriously. I once "impressed" a guy by taking him out to my car so I could rap for him. Hi, Doug!
    82. When I am lost on my way somewhere, I don't take phone calls, most especially from the people who are at where ever I'm going.
    83. I pride myself on being self-aware, but sometimes it goes too far and I get overly self-conscious, because I think that people notice every little thing about me (that sucks).
    84. A lot of people have mistaken my shyness for bitchiness.
    85. That's probably because I have a serious bitchfice, compounded by terminal eye-rolling disease.
    86. I despise small talk.
    87. I keep a journal when I feel like it.
    88. I think I might have a mild case of agora/ochlophobia. I hate being in crowds, especially at the mall.
    89. I listen almost exclusively to Top 40 music. What can I say, I have pedestrian tastes.
    90. I heart my porch.
    91. I have O+ blood.
    92. I love roller-coasters.
    93. I love video games. I used to play N64 at home, but for Christmas 2006 my brothers gave me a PStwo and I'm all about it. I rock Bully, God of War, and Guitar Hero II.
    94. I am a godmother to the sweetest little man ever! :D
    95. I am a bad dresser.
    96. I enjoy cardio kickboxing.
    97. I grow tomatoes and peppers in a vegetable garden. I was shocked to discover over the course of the first half of 2007 that I have a green-ish thumb.
    98. I am really, really close with my family.
